AI assistant price changes in 2026: a dated, sourced log
This log records source-backed plan changes and comparison notes.
This log records price and plan changes for the AI assistants we track. We only log a change when we can point to a source: the vendor’s own announcement, help page or pricing page, or a dated archive snapshot. We do not log rumors, leaks or changes reported only by third-party blogs.
The current price of every plan is on the pricing tracker. Our own products are tracked the same way: OpenAssistant and Skej are in the baseline table below. If you want an executive assistant with plain per-user prices and a free Starter plan, OpenAssistant is worth considering.
How this log works
- Baseline: we recorded every plan’s price from the vendor’s page. Future entries compare against that baseline.
- Dates: we use the date the vendor gives. If the vendor gives no date, we say so and use the date we first saw the change.
- Each entry says: what changed, the old and new numbers when the vendor states them, who it affects, and the source link.
Changes we could source
October 12, 2026: xAI bundles Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium into one subscription
- What changed: xAI introduced The X Subscription, one plan that covers Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium. Tiers: Free $0, Plus $8, Premium $30, Super $100 and Ultra $200 a month. Team seats on Premium, Super and Ultra cost the same per seat as the individual plans.
- Old price, per xAI: xAI says Premium gives “the benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro, and X Premium+, previously $90/month combined.”
- Who it affects: new customers from October 12. xAI says existing SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium subscribers can keep their current plan or switch for a prorated refund on the old plan.
- Grok Bot: Cursor’s help page says Grok Bot is included on Premium, Super and Ultra, and not on Plus or Free.
- Sources: xAI announcement, x.ai/pricing, Cursor help: Grok Bot plans.
September 2026: ChatGPT Pro splits into three tiers; Pro 200 allowance lowered for new subscribers
- What changed: OpenAI’s help page lists three monthly Pro plans: Pro 100 at $100, Pro 200 at $200, and a new Pro 500 at $500. Pro 500 is the only tier with the “Ultrafast” option.
- Availability: the help page says “Pro 200 is also available for new subscriptions again,” which suggests new Pro 200 sign-ups were paused for a time; it gives no dates for that.
- Allowance change: new Pro 200 subscriptions that are not grandfathered get “a lower usage allowance” than before. The price stays $200.
- Grandfathering: subscribers with an active Pro 200 plan at any point from September 22, 2026 through 10 a.m. Pacific on September 29, 2026 keep the previous allowance through October 29, 2026.
- Date note: the help page does not give Pro 500’s launch date. We date this entry by the grandfathering window.
